CD Digipak Templates/Deadlines - IMPORTANT! Must Read

I have updated the template resources in the folder on the student share section. There are a range of templates - most of which are self explanatory.

Also, the graphic pen tablet software should now be on all of the PCs in ENF3.

If you are planning on using that just remember that ENF3 has Adobe CC whereas ENG4 only has CS4. Therefore, if you start working in CC you may find that some newer elements aren't compatible with CS4.

You can find all of these in:

I do not mind which programme you use, or which format your booklet takes but you must use either the templates provided or some of your own that fit the correct dimensions.

The templates are as below. I would avoid using the folder Digipak templates unless you are extremely proficient with Photoshop etc.

It is better to start your work in the template and not the other way around otherwise you will find that you will need to resize your image and design and possibly have to re-do a lot of work.

The CD digipak materials will be uploaded to your blog in the usual format but I would also expect them to be printed off and placed in a CD case and photographed. Photos to be uploaded to your blog too.

Make sure on each template you ensure that you are using the correct one - the back cover is different to the front as it has a spine attached.

Remember:

Your brief says 'a digpak for the album's release' and (Scott) a DVD cover.

Just remember that as you are making the video for a single you will need to make sure it looks like an album not a CD single.

Although there is no specified amount of pages I would expect the minimum of the following in order to get a decent grade:

- A CD cover
- A four page booklet (the CD cover can be one of those pages)
- A back cover

Scott - I would recommend a DVD cover and back cover.

Equally, MORE does not necessarily mean BETTER. As per industry standards, the most important thing is that the shots are good, sense of placement and framing are appropriate, the details are appropriate and a consistent house style is used throughout. Most importantly, the video, digipak and website should all feel like

One other thing, although you only have to produce one CD digipak and one website per group, I would expect your group to have produced multiple versions of one of the ancillaries and then chosen the best one. This will allow me to give you more marks for the planning and production, give you more to say in the evaluation and in the exam AND should result in a better final product as your group can make decisions as to the best one to use.

As always, if in doubt - ask.

Mrs Spalding will be giving you some lesson time in theory lessons to work on all of this. ENF3 is open every lunch time and after school for you to use. Please ensure the room is kept in a good state and equipment put away or returned.

A reminder too that the deadline is Fri 26th Feb 4pm for the main task and ancillaries. I would like to see a rough version by Fri 19th Feb so I can give you some feedback before the final hand-in.

Borrowing equipment over the Xmas break

If you plan to film or fancy practising some filming over Xmas you CAN borrow equipment over the holidays. The sheets are up on the cupboards in ENG4. A2 students have priority as their deadline is 27th Feb whereas the AS one is Fri 6th March.

Please make sure you do not take more equipment than you need and you plan carefully when you take the equipment for. If others wish to use the equipment over the break then swap numbers and ensure you stick to the dates you booked it for.

Lastly, take care of the equipment and yourselves and take loads of footage! More is better.

Best y13 blogs so far...

There's a lot of good. And some not so good. However, these two are excellent. Hats off to Tamsin and Liam. Check out their blogs to see what a very good one looks like! Take inspiration...not their work!

Copyright issues and music videos - MUST READ!

This is the board's guidance on copyright issues and music videos:

'For music video, permission should be sought from the artist for use of the audio track.'

This does not mean that you have to receive their permission but it does mean that you should evidence the fact that you have tried. Previous year groups have emailed the record company or band and asked for copyright permission and then posted the email on their blog sites. It is unusual to get a response but you do not want the artist/label demanding you take your video down or threatening you with legal action after all the work is done. It is not usually an issue (apart from with YouTube) but it is good practice.

Please add this to your research and planning task list. Below is some text you may wish to use in your email.

'I am writing to you to request permission to film a music video version of your song ______________. This forms part of my OCR A-level Media Studies course where my task is to record a music video to a song of my choice. It is only for assessment purposes and will not be used for any commercial or profit seeking purposes. I acknowledge your copyright of the material and will not use it for any other purpose than that stated above.

If you require any further information or clarification regarding the use of this material for educational purposes please contact my teacher Mr Welch (welchch@tuptonhall.derbyshire.sch.uk)'

Excellent blogs to look at!

Last year's Y13s achieved the highest grades ever in Media Studies. Sick of hearing it I bet? Well...time to step up and show them what you can do! Luckily for you, they completed some excellent work which you can read and use for inspiration/ideas. I'm sure you wouldn't but don't be a numpty and try and copy any of their work though. It would be both stupid and dishonest as I marked them so will notice straight away!

Anyway, all of these students got 18 or 19 out of 20 for Planning.
